James Benham of Smartbidnet launches Construction Open Software Alliance at AGC IT Forum Smartbidnet
CHIGAGO – James Benham, founder of Smartbidnet, announced the formation of the Construction Open Software Alliance at the Associated General Contractors of America's IT Forum in Chicago. Speaking at the Sofitel Hotel on Chicago's Wacker Drive, Benham said the COSA will be a community of software developers and providers who support an open standard in construction software applications, in order to provide the most useful, integrated solutions to the end-user.

Newforma licenses M-SIX VEO platform to further integrate PIM with BIM Newforma
MANCHESTER, N.H. and PORTLAND, Ore. – Newforma, a project information management (PIM) software company transforming building and infrastructure project delivery, and M-SIX, developer of a platform enabling 3D building model collaboration in the cloud, today announced that Newforma has licensed the M-SIX VEO platform to integrate PIM with BIM. Trimble extends its BIM-to-Field capabilities for building contractors with SketchUp file integration Trimble
SUNNYVALE, Calif. – Trimble introduced the first integration of SketchUp file import capabilities into the Trimble Field Link layout software. By supporting model data from Tekla, Autodesk, and now SketchUp, Trimble extends its capabilities in bringing constructible Building Information Modeling (BIM) solutions from the office to the field. Recently acquired by Trimble from Google, SketchUp Pro is used by architects; general, steel and concrete contractors; and mechanical, engineering and plumbing (MEP) contractors to easily create 3D models for visualization of residential and commercial building construction projects.
